The shop
One shop for the whole loom.
CSA Auto Electrics and Air-Conditioning has been working on vehicles in Katherine since 2007. We handle all aspects of vehicle electrical and mechanical repairs, service and installations, on a large range of vehicles including cars, trucks, trailers, caravans and farm machinery.
We stock a broad range of parts and accessories too, including Century Batteries, UHF radios, spotlights, light bars and headlight upgrades. From starting problems and air conditioning through to lighting, communications, electric windows, stereos and central locking, we cover it all.
ARCtick certified, RTA number AU17328. That is the licence required to handle refrigerant in Australia, and it is the reason we can do air conditioning work properly rather than just topping something up and hoping.
Palmer Street, Katherine East. Most days there is something in the yard with the bonnet up and a fault to chase.
What we do
Electrics, air con, and the bits in between.
Everything below is work we do in the shop at Palmer Street. If you are not sure which of it you need, ring us and describe what the vehicle is doing.
Auto air conditioning
Repair, installation, regas and servicing for cars, 4WDs, trucks and boats. We are ARCtick certified, so refrigerant is handled properly and legally. Up here a working air con is not a luxury, and we make it our business that you are not without one for long.
Auto electrical diagnostics
Starting problems, charging faults, wiring that has had enough of the corrugations. We work on cars, trucks, trailers, caravans and farm machinery, and we find the fault rather than guessing at it.
Batteries and charging
Alternators, starters and charging systems, plus a proper parts counter. We stock Century Batteries, so a flat battery does not have to mean a wait for something to come up the highway.
Caravan and trailer wiring
Trailer plugs and sockets, hitch wiring, breakaway circuits, 12V fridge circuits and dual battery setups. A lot of this work walks in off the highway with the van still hitched up.
Lighting and driving lights
Spotlights, light bars and headlight upgrades, wired and mounted properly. Roos at dusk on the Stuart are not the time to find out a cheap loom has melted.
UHF, GPS and sat phones
UHF radios, phone kits, GPS and satellite phone installations. Out past the last bar of reception, the radio in the dash is the one that matters.
Mechanical repairs and servicing
Brake and clutch repairs, servicing and general mechanical work alongside the electrical side, so one shop can sort most of what a vehicle throws at you.
Trucks, plant and farm machinery
Commercial trucks, trailers and farm machinery get the same diagnostic work as anything else. If it has a loom in it, we can chase a fault through it.
Touring and 12V
Halfway up the Stuart is a bad place for a flat fridge.
Katherine sits where the Stuart Highway meets the Victoria Highway, so a good share of our week is people passing through with a van on the back and something that has stopped working. Trailer plugs, hitch wiring, 12V fridge circuits, dual batteries, a light bar that died on the corrugations.
We know you are on a schedule and that the next town is a long way off, so we will tell you straight whether it is a quick fix or a real job.

About CSA
Nineteen years on Palmer Street.
CSA has been trading in Katherine since 2007, and the shop at 4 Palmer Street runs with a small crew of five. That is deliberate. It means the person who looks at your vehicle is usually the person you spoke to on the phone.
We are an AANT approved repairer and a member of the Chamber of Commerce NT, and we hold a current Northern Territory Government contract for the repair and maintenance of the electronic message boards across the Katherine region. It is not glamorous work, but it says something about the diagnostics.
We also take on and train local apprentices, and one of ours was named School-Based Apprentice of the Year at the GTNT Group Awards. Getting good auto sparkies into the Territory matters more than most things we do.

On the road
If you have seen the truck, that is us.
Purple lettering, a bit of chrome, and a hot rod on the back. The number on the side is the one that reaches us, and it is answered by someone in the workshop rather than a call centre in another state.

We (like many others apparently) were passing through and needed a quick repair on our rear canopy light done. We tried several other places but Jordan here at CSA was the only one that offered to help us, which he and Hayden did with aplomb. They are both superstars and deserving of our gratitude and good karma!

Dave, Toby and crew, thanks everyone so much for fixing our car fridge plug, which wasn't working. The 12v plug just didn't want to do its thing. We rocked up, these guys were flat out, asked if we could come back in 45mins.... as soon as we got back, they were all over it and done in about 30mins. Very very grateful, thankyou

Dave was very helpful when we turned up without a booking. We needed assistance with an electrical issue that cropped up just as we were about to head out remote. He was polite and friendly and able to resolve the issue quickly.
